Why Star Lord is the Marvel BFF you wish you had #GuardiansOfTheGalaxyVol2

There were loads of things to love about Marvel's runaway 2014 hit Guardians of the Galaxy from the rocking soundtrack to the awe-inspiring action scenes. But it wouldn't have meant anything without our roguish and ridiculously likeable central hero Peter Quill/Star Lord, brought to life in a star-making role by Parks and Rec's Chris Pratt.

With Quill returning in next year's Guardians Vol. 2, here's why he's the Marvel BFF you wish you had...

1. His impeccable taste in music

Music isn't just a thing for Star Lord; it's his life – quite literally. Quill's dying mother passed on her Awesome Mix Vol. 1 to him when he was a boy and he carries the pop-tastic mixtape wherever he goes. There's barely a Justin Bieber tune in sight – think more along the lines of David Bowie, The Jackson Five and, in the movie's immortal opening sequence, Redbone. If you ever wanted someone to do a retro DJ set at your wedding, Quill would be your man.

2. His way with the ladies

He's a smooth talker that Star Lord – remember the way in which he sweet-talked fierce warrior Gamora (Zoe Saldana)? He'd be great to get tips from on a night out – heck he's so much fun, you'd even be honoured to be his wingman.

3. He's loyal through and through

He might be a bit of a joker but Star Lord knows when to pull through and defend his close allies when he needs to – is there any greater sort of BFF than that? As proof, check out this scene in which he saves Gamora from a premature death in outer space, almost sacrificing himself in the process. It just goes to show his heart is in the right place.

4. He's got the moves!

It's not only the art of flirtation that Star Lord could teach in his role as BFF. Check out this moment from the end of the movie in which he shows off his mean dancing skills to distract baddie Ronan (Lee Pace) – now that's something we'd all love to learn, right?

5. And he's got the abs too

If partying hard ain't your thing, then you can always call on Star Lord to act as your gym buddy – and there are six very good reasons for that. Check them out below.
