Everest

What's the story? Southpaw's Jake Gyllenhaal stars in this riveting, fact-based mountaineering drama.

First published in 1997, Jon Krakauer's gripping book 'Into Thin Air' detailed the doomed attempt by two separate groups to scale the peak of Mount Everest. Now Krakauer's bestseller is brought to the screen with an all-star cast consisting of Jason Clarke, Josh Brolin, John Hawkes, Sam Worthington and Southpaw's Jake Gyllenhaal, all playing the men dedicated to scaling the fearsome, unpredictable mountain. With their mettle tested by one of the fiercest snowstorms ever known to mankind, the climbers are pushed to their physical and emotional limits.

Directed by Baltasar Kormakur, whose 2012 film The Deep similarly focused on the limits of survival, the story is adapted by Oscar winning Slumdog Millionaire screenwriter Simon Beaufoy. Screening in both 2D and immersive IMAX 3D, this powerful drama promises to sweep viewers into the unknown. Keira Knightley, Emily Watson and Robin Wright also star.

The D Train

What's the story? School of Rock's Jack Black and Enchanted's James Marsden star in a darkly funny school reunion comedy.

Dan Landsman (Jack Black) is a dorky, unpopular loser who lives in Pittsburgh with his loving wife Stacey (Kathryn Hahn) and son Zach (Russell Posner). As self-appointed leader of the committee to organise a 20 year high school reunion, Dan's having trouble drumming up any enthusiasm. Then he spots former classmate Oliver Lawless (James Marsden) on a TV commercial and hits on a brilliant idea. If he can persuade this hunky Hollywood star to attend, everyone will flock to the reunion and he'll be a hero to his peers at last. Careful what you wish for...

There's a jaw-dropping twist in store in this subversive comedy from writer/director duo Jarrad Paul and Andrew Mogel, who co-wrote the Jim Carrey film Yes Man. Jack Black contributes his most subtle and emotional performance since Richard Linklater's wickedly funny Bernie.

Katti Batti
(Hindi)

What's the story? Imran Khan and Kangana Ranaut star in a Bollywood romantic comedy with a unique twist.

Architect Madhav (Imran Khan) fell for Payal (Kangana Ranaut) because of her free spirited bohemian nature. But now they've split up after five years together. Will they beat the odds in their determination to reunite?

Imran Khan describes his return to the spotlight as a story that begins where other rom-coms end: "You have seen those kind of films in which girl and boy meet, fall in love, a misunderstanding takes place and finally it is cleared and they live happily ever after. Now all that happens here as well, but before the film begins!"

The female lead is Kangana Ranaut, who's still basking in the huge success of Tanu Weds Manu Returns. She says the character of Payal is her toughest role yet. It's a swift return to cinemas for busy director Nikhil Advani, whose Hero is still packing them in.

Real-life brothers Vineeth and Dhyan, the sons of veteran Malayalam filmmaker Sreenivasan, give terrific performances as the warring cousins. There's able support from Aju Varghese as the village tailor, plus Neeraj Madhav, Bijukkuttan, Deepak and Hareesh. The music is by Justin Prabhakar, with lyrics by Manu Manjith.
