Terminator sequels set for 2017 and 2018

It’s been known for a while that the now-in-post-production Terminator: Genisys is to be the first in a fresh trilogy for the 30-years-young franchise, and now Paramount have nailed down dates for two sequels to the Alan Taylor-directed reboot.

Yes, Terminators 2 and 3 – which they’ll almost certainly not be called – will be landing in cinemas on 19th May 2017 (just two months before Arnie’s 70th birthday, fact fans) and 29th June 2018. The Hollywood Reporter’s mole is saying that the two movies will be shot back-to-back, though there’s no word yet whether Taylor (who also helmed Thor: The Dark World) will be returning.

Filming wrapped last month on the newly monickered Genisys, which stars Game of Thrones’ Emilia Clarke as Sarah Connor, Jason Clarke (no relation) as John Connor, Jai Courtney as Kyle Reese and, of course, Arnold Schwarzenegger back in his most iconic role.

Will this see the Terminator franchise return to match fitness after the disappointments of the last two movies? The first couple of James Cameron-curated flicks are both bullet-proof classics, but both Rise of the Machines and (especially) Salvation fell well short. Are Alan Taylor and screenwriters Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier the right people to help return the Terminator franchise to greatness? There’s only nine months to find out when Terminator: Genisys opens on June 26th (that’s five days before it’s released in the States – back of the net!).
