Bollywood to Hollywood: Irrfan Khan on his role in Jurassic World

Irrfan Khan has come a long way. From starting life being unable to afford a cinema ticket, to becoming a successful Bollywood actor in India, he has since made the switch to Hollywood and appeared in the likes of Slumdog Millionaire and Life of Pi. Now he’s set to appear on our cinema screens next year in Jurassic World.

The actor talked to The Hollywood Reporter about how surreal it is to find himself with a role in one of next year’s most anticipated movies. “When the first Jurassic Park came out, I barely had the money to see it,” he recalls, “and now I'm playing a part.”

The part

And what of his role in the film? He is allowed to divulge a few details: “I'm playing the park owner, a very flamboyant person,” he says. “He's trying to entertain the world with good intentions, but sometimes being flamboyant doesn't mean having much wisdom.”

Hmm, might this lack of wisdom lead to him becoming one of the first to fall prey to a dinosaur?

The plot

Khan also said we can expect director Colin Trevorrow to deliver a modern take on the franchise, and that it won’t just be more of the same.

To differentiate it from the original film, he assures us, “it will have more vibe. It's the Jurassic World of these times, with all the technical experimentation.”

“It has now become a fully bloomed dinosaur amusement park,” he adds. “Dinosaurs in this film will definitely be scary, but this is not a horror film, so it will be like a scary adventure.”

The process

Talking about what it was like making the movie, he said it wasn’t difficult starring alongside a lot of CGI dinosaurs, as well as the human ones such as Chris Pratt.

“As an actor, what's most important is how the story and the director make you feel on the set, and that's immaterial if you have CGI or real partners,” he comments. “If you have good chemistry with the director, everything's fine, and I really loved the playfulness of the script and Colin's approach.”

Jurassic World has a release date of 12th June 2015. Are you looking forward to going back to the park? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
