Ghostbusters: the new title, plus your breakdown of the new trailer!

screen-poster

So, it's official: as reported in Den of Geek this summer's all-female Ghostbusters reboot now has a subtitle, Answer the Call. Presumably this is to differentiate Bridesmaids and Spy director Paul Feig's movie from the 1984 classic, although it also carries with it a nice whiff of nostalgia. And we've also got a new trailer too: here are the highlights as chosen by yours truly at Cineworld towers.

1. A haunting in New York

We begin with deceptively ominous voiceover: "It will haunt you in the night... whatever it is... No-one should have to encounter that kind of evil..." Gulp, sounds a bit more terrifying than your standard Ghostbusters plot.

2. Meet the team

However, in typically hilarious Paul Feig style we then cut to the hapless group of women tasked with confronting this supposedly terrifying evil. These are your new Ghostbusters in the form of Abby (Melissa McCarthy), Erin (Kristen Wiig), Jillian (Kate McKinnon) and Patty (Leslie Jones).

3. Paranormal posse

"We have a gift... We see what no-one else is willing to see," explains Abby. That's as maybe but we're all about this decorative ghoat attached to the newly revamped ECTO-1 vehicle.

4. "A bigger boat"

Lunkheaded receptionist Kevin's (Chris Hemsworth) attempts to riff on the deadly stakes of Steven Spielberg classic Jaws fall on deaf ears. These women may be ghost busters, but film buffs they're clearly not.

5. Possessed Hemsworth!

In what is presumably a nod to the Sigourney Weaver/Rick Moranis possession storyline of the 1984 classic, here we see staunch Ghostbusters ally Kevin being taken over by an evil spirit, before promptly roaring away on a Ghostbusters-branded bike. The supernatural menace, it seems, will have a human face...

6. Skyscraper spooks

In another neat visual nod to the first movie, we get a shot of a very tall building (is it the Empire State?) surrounded by spectral energy. It's probably not good – but it sure looks awesome.

7. "Mass hysteria"

As ever, the Ghostbusters are forced to contend with a bit of red tape in order to protect the inhabitants of their city. There's also a nice shout-out to one of Bill Murray's greatest lines from the first movie. Also: is that the exact same Mayor's office from the original? Sure looks like it.

8. Prepare to get slimed!

It wouldn't be Ghostbusters without its signature, slobbery ghost – only this time, he's been accentuated with a lot more disgusting, dribbling CGI food pouring from his mouth. Gross, but funny.
