Sparks fly in the sultry trailer for Olivia Wilde's next movie, Don't Worry Darling. The director of Booksmart now shifts dramatic gears and time zones, whisking us back to a hermetically sealed 1950s era of casual sexism and escalating paranoia. Oh, and it has Florence Pugh and Harry Styles as the best-looking married couple you'll see all year.
The movie, based on an original conceit by Booksmart scribe Katie Silberman, casts the currently-on-fire Pugh as the apparent model of the archetypal fifties housewife. Seemingly destined to serve her loving husband's every need (he is played by a sharp-suited Styles), Pugh's character Alice begins to suspect the nature of her apparently ordinary community.
It turns out that Styles' loving hubbie Jack works for a company that has very sinister intentions. Cross The Stepford Wives with Mad Men and maybe some of the sexual frankness of Paul Verhoeven, and in all honesty, you probably won't imagine what Wilde's next movie is like. We imagine this is going to throw out more than a few curveballs.
Wilde herself co-stars alongside a creepy-looking Chris Pine and Eternals star Gemma Chan for a movie that has us anxious for all the right reasons.
Don't Worry Darling steams things up like the proverbial Titanic car window on 23rd September. If you can't wait that long, don't forget to check out our list of 2022's most anticipated horror movies.
