What is National Cinema Day?

National Cinema Day is an industry-wide initiative that celebrates the magic of the big screen. The initiative has been developed by the cross-industry body Cinema First and is supported by the Film Distributors’ Association and the UK Cinema Association.

Iain Jacob, Chair of Cinema First, says: "National Cinema Day is fast becoming a Great British cultural event, sharing the joy and sociability of cinema across the nation. This year we have more support than ever, allowing us to show a fantastically wide choice of films at amazing value. Every year this event has got bigger, with more and more people sharing their love of cinema. We know that 2024 will be the best yet."

How is Cineworld celebrating National Cinema Day?

As part of National Cinema Day, all Cineworld tickets will be just £4 all day for all films. That means you can catch up on all the latest must-see blockbusters and family movies, making special memories as you do so.

And since snacks are an essential part of the cinema experience, we have a special offer on National Cinema Day. Get a regular popcorn with a regular drink for just £6* – or upgrade to a large popcorn and a large drink for just £1 extra.

Does this mean all Cineworld formats are just £4?

Yes, it does! The question is, which format will you choose?

The expansive scope, enlarged screen ratio and immersive surround sound of IMAX invest bold and dynamic new life into your moviegoing experience.

4DX is a thrilling multisensory experience that is unique to Cineworld cinemas in the UK and Ireland. Moving seats combine with wind, rain, scents and other effects to put you in the heart of the action.

ScreenX is also exclusive to Cineworld cinemas. The state-of-the-art technology uses 270° projection, expanding the parameters of a given movie onto the side walls of the auditorium for a truly overwhelming and visceral experience.

And movies feel like masterpieces in our Superscreen with huge screens and Dolby Atmos sound.

What movies are showing at Cineworld on National Cinema Day?

There's so much to experience on National Cinema Day. So, whether you want to catch up on movies you haven't yet seen or finally try one of our special formats, there's plenty to see.

Scroll down for details of specific viewing formats and the movies that will be playing.

IMAX

Experience new dimensions of Steve Carell's Gru and the hysterical Minions in Despicable Me 4 as IMAX's enlarged screens and dynamic sounds lend greater life to the film's humour.

Ensure that Emotional HQ resonates with greater sharpness, clarity and emotional resonance with Pixar's blockbusting Inside Out 2 in IMAX.

Deadpool & Wolverine opens up new vistas of the Marvel Cinematic Universe via its dynamic IMAX presentation, stretching the multiverse to an even greater size.

Alien: Romulus paints a terrifying and immersive portrait of deep space terror via IMAX's unique visual and audio specifications.

4DX

Feel the chaotic slapstick impact of the Minions with Despicable Me 4 in 4DX – every pratfall and mismanaged moment of chaos promises to resonate via moving seats and effects like wind, water scents and more.

4DX promises to imbue more life into the delightful Inside Out 2, utilising multisensory effects to make one palpably feel the quicksilver shifts from Joy to Sadness to Anxiety and back again.

And with the new Blumhouse horror AfrAId, you'll feel even more terrified by a demonic smart home and the film's onslaught of jump scares, which will literally make you jump in your seat in line with the on-screen shocks.

ScreenX

Experience Despicable Me 4 in 270-degree ScreenX and you'll feel engulfed by the hilarious comic madness of the Minions.

Deadpool & Wolverine surrounds viewers on all sides with knowing cameos and meta in-jokes related to the history of the MCU, so take this all-encompassing sense of fun to the next level via the 270-degree impact of ScreenX.

If you're in the mood to be terrified, then opt for Alien: Romulus in ScreenX. The vast, yawning corridors of the Romulus space station with its xenomorph-infested corners will seem all the more palpable and immersive in 270-degree vision.

Films showing without formats

In addition to Despicable Me 4, Inside Out 2, Alien: Romulus, AfrAId and Deadpool & Wolverine, which are also all available in standard auditoriums, there are plenty of exciting releases available for just £4 on National Cinema Day.

Plus, you get to enjoy a raft of exciting new releases for just £4 as part of National Cinema Day. What will you opt for? You can embark on a gloriously Gothic odyssey with the comic book remake The Crow or engage with Channing Tatum's dark side in the satirical thriller Blink Twice.

Be absorbed by a compelling romantic triangle in the Blake Lively/Colleen Hoover hit It Ends With Us and watch an ordinary man's childhood imagination come to life in Harold and the Purple Crayon.

Plus, you’ll have the chance to catch some classics back on the big screen, including the 15th anniversary of the ghoulish stop-motion classic Coraline in 3D. And The Terminator will be back on the big screen in a 4K restoration for its 40th anniversary. Check your local cinema to see what else is showing on Saturday.
