With Halloween just a few short weeks away (31st October), people all across the country will be preparing their scariest outfits ready for some trick or treating, apple bobbing and other creepy capers.
One very special way to celebrate Halloween is to watch a scary movie at the cinema – and you can experience plenty of big-screen thrills and spills at Cineworld over the coming weeks. We'll be showing a choice of terrific – and terrifying – films for fans of the horror genre, including the all-new slasher sequel Halloween Kills and a special 25th anniversary edition of Wes Craven's classic Scream. And families are catered-for, too, with The Addams Family 2 promising chills and chuckles in equal measures.
So, why not book your tickets, don your best ghost, witch or vampire costume, and come and spend a couple of hours cowering behind your popcorn. Here's what's on...
1. Halloween Kills
John Carpenter's classic 1978 horror film Halloween has been brought back to life more times than a zombie rising from the grave, with varying levels of success. So why should you be excited about Halloween Kills (showing at Cineworld cinemas from 15th October), the 12th instalment in the franchise? Because it's David Gordon Green's follow-up to his 2018 flick Halloween, which itself was a direct sequel to the original – and a rather good one at that. Jamie Lee Curtis once again reprises her role as Laurie Strode, the sole survivor of Michael Myers' 1978 killing spree, while James Jude Courtney makes his second appearance as the deranged murderer. With the plot centring around a vigilante group that decides to put an end to Myers' mayhem once and for all, a hefty dose of suspense is guaranteed. And one person who certainly wasn't disappointed was Marshall Shaffer, the Film critic writing that “Halloween Kills manages to put a playful but petrifying spin on mythology without resorting to cheap self-referentiality.”

2. Last Night in Soho
We love a psychological thriller here at Cineworld, and Last Night in Soho (showing at Cineworld cinemas from 29th October) is one you won't want to miss. Directed by Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead, Ant-Man, Baby Driver), it stars Thomasin McKenzie as a young fashion student with a strange sixth sense who gets transported back in time to London 1966. There, she finds herself drawn to an aspiring nightclub singer (Anya Taylor-Joy) whose glamorous life quickly begins to unravel with horrifying consequences. Premiered at this year's Venice International Film Festival, Last Night in Soho has received some glowing reviews, with The Daily Telegraph's Robbie Collin describing it as “a riotous, rascally hybrid of a thing: part glittering love-letter to the disreputable nightlife district in which it takes place, part darting psychological thriller that rips up the letter as soon as it's written before tearfully torching the scraps”. The film is also notable for featuring Terence Stamp and Diana Rigg in their final appearances.

3. Scream (25th Anniversary)
Wes Craven's playful satire on the horror genre won almost universal praise when it first appeared at cinemas back in 1996. And now you have a chance to catch this classic slasher movie on the big screen once again, as Cineworld celebrates the film's 25th anniversary with a series of special screenings (from 12th October). In case you've forgotten, the plot centres around a Californian high-school student (Neve Campbell) who becomes the target of a mysterious masked killer known as Ghostface. As well as turning the genre on its head by making knowing references to horror film cliches, Scream kickstarted a run of new slasher movie franchises that included the likes of I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997) and Final Destination (2000). The Scream franchise itself has now spawned four films in total, with a fifth due for release next year. For many horror fans, though, the original is still the best – so if you haven't seen it on the big screen before, don't miss this chance.

4. Antlers
Antlers... The name alone sounds terrifying, doesn't it. But this supernatural horror (showing at Cineworld cinemas from 29th October) delivers so much more than just a scary title. Directed by Scott Cooper (Crazy Heart, Black Mass) and co-produced by Guillermo del Toro, it centres around an Oregon school teacher (Keri Russell) who, along with her police officer brother (Jesse Plemons), becomes convinced that one of her students is harbouring a supernatural creature inside his house. We won't give away what happens, but with creepy suspense in spades, it's a movie that'll live with you long after the final credits roll.

5. The Addams Family 2
Halloween isn't just for adults, of course, and Cineworld has ensured that the little ones get their fair share of ghoulish fun by scheduling in this brand-new sequel to The Addams Family (showing at Cineworld cinemas from 8th October). Just to be clear, that's the 2019 computer-animated version and not the 1991 film starring Anjelica Huston and Christopher Lloyd. Directed once again by Conrad Vernon and Greg Tiernan, the second instalment sees Gomez (voiced by Oscar Isaac) taking his eccentric clan on a cross-country road trip in a bid to bring them closer together. However, their adventure turns into chaos when a lawyer approaches them claiming that Wednesday was accidentally switched in hospital and isn't, in fact, an Addams. With Charlize Theron, Bette Midler and Chloe Grace Moretz also among the voice cast, The Addams Family 2 is a mildly horrifying hoot for the young and old.
