The Transformers One trailer takes us back to the origins of Optimus Prime

Discover how Autobot Transformers Prime became a legend in the first trailer for Transformers One. Directed by Toy Story 4 helmer Josh Cooley, this feature-length CG animated adventure aims to put an irreverent and colourful spin on a franchise that has largely been defined by the size of Michael Bay's explosions.

Thor star Chris Hemsworth voices the younger Optimus back in the days when he was known as Orion Pax. His opposite number is D-16 (voiced by Brian Tyree Henry), later to become his feared nemesis Megatron. In this movie, they're BFFs on Megatron committed to saving the day together.

The Hasbro franchise fans will get a kick out of the authentic retro character designs and casuals will love the all-star voice cast that also includes Scarlett Johansson as Elita-1, Jon Hamm as Sentinel Prime, Keegan-Michael Key as Bumblebee and Laurence Fishburne as Alpha Trion.

Can Hemsworth live up to the formidable reputation of Optimus Prime voice actor Peter Cullen? Much has been made about how Hemsworth has altered his regular speaking voice to establish continuity with Cullen's fan-favourite portrayal.
