Steve Coogan and John C. Reilly could be in line for Oscars when must-see biopic Stan & Ollie hits screens next January. And Unlimited members get to cast their verdict even earlier during our advance Unlimited screening on 18th December.
This affectionate and moving biopic explores the lives of legendary double act Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy, who dominated the early Hollywood comedy scene between the 1920s and 1940s. However, come the 1950s, their star was on the wane, not to mention their enduring friendship, and the film also explores the duo's twilight years as they're obligated to tour British seaside towns to revive their popularity.
Both Coogan and Reilly have drawn widespread acclaim for their eerily accurate portrayals of Laurel and Hardy. (Reilly was also recently nominated at the Golden Globes.) Director Jon S. Baird fashions a luminous tribute to a bygone era of Hollywood stardom and also champions the legacy of two of cinema's best loved comedians.
