Few actors convey pure, honest decency as well as Tom Hanks. So he's an excellent fit for the role of beloved American TV presenter Fred Rogers in A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood. Cineworld Unlimited members can glimpse Hanks' Oscar-buzzed performance this December, ahead of the film's release date in January 2020.
The Forrest Gump star disappears into the role of the revered Fred Rogers, who inspired generations of American children through his show 'Mister Rogers' Neighborhood'. The programme ran for almost 40 years, and instilled principles of compassion and decency in all those who watched it, many of whom saw Rogers as a surrogate father figure.
The movie goes behind the scenes of Rogers' television hit, as he's profiled by journalist Lloyd Vogel (Matthew Rhys). As Vogel struggles not to perform a hatchet job on this American icon, he steadily learns more about himself via the interactions with the kindly Rogers.
Hanks' performance has been met with critical acclaim, and many are anticipating it will win him his third Oscar. Todd McCarthy writes in The Hollywood Reporter: "There’s no question that Hanks is perfect in the part, as the actor’s amiability and unquestionable sincerity make for an ideal match with the unique television personality."
