Thor: Love and Thunder - check out the first poster featuring Natalie Portman as Mighty Thor

What's that distant rumbling? Why, it's the sound of the new Thor movie bounding imperiously towards a cinema near you. Thor: Love and Thunder is due to arrive at Cineworld on 8 July, and it's fair to say that we've been chomping at the bit to see what this latest Marvel Studios blockbuster has in store. Now, we're even more excited as the first poster featuring Natalie Portman as Mighty Thor has surfaced.

If you remember, Portman played scientist (and Thor's love interest) Jane Foster in both Thor (2011) and Thor: The Dark World (2013), but didn't appear in 2017's Thor: Ragnarok as her character didn't feature in the script. Now she's back in director Taika Waititi's latest adventure, and this time her character gets a spectacular makeover as Foster transforms into the Goddess of Thunder.

Clearly, Portman is excited about this, as she took to Instagram yesterday to share the new poster with her 7.6 million followers. In it, she can be seen clad in full armour as she stands atop a mountain, raising Mjolnir triumphantly in the air. If the image looks familiar, that's because it's a take on the original poster, which saw Thor (Chris Hemsworth) in an identical pose, alongside the slogan “The one and only.” The new, Mighty Thor poster features the words “The one is not the only.” Brilliantly, Portman has included a message to Hemsworth, saying: "And you thought you were the one and only." Touché!

Anyway, whoever turns out to be the most Thor-midable of the two superheroes, it's sure to be a thrill fest. We're not worthy!
