Spencer: new image of Kristen Stewart as Princess Diana

A new image from Princess Diana biopic Spencer has been released, as production moves from Germany to the UK. The highly controversial movie focuses on a significant period in Diana's life when her marriage to Prince Charles began to break down.

Kristen Stewart plays the ill-fated title character for director Pablo Larraín, who helmed the critically acclaimed Jackie Kennedy drama Jackie. Check out the new Spencer image below.

Here's the official synopsis: "December, 1991: The Prince and Princess of Wales’ marriage has long since grown cold. Though rumours of affairs and a divorce abound, peace is ordained for the Christmas festivities at Sandringham Estate. There's eating and drinking, shooting and hunting. Diana knows the game. This year, things will be a whole lot different."

The responsibility for adapting this turbulent moment in British royal history falls to Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight. The supporting cast includes The King's Speech's Timothy Spall, Mission: Impossible's Sean Harris, The Shape of Water's Sally Hawkins and Poldark's Jack Farthing (who been confirmed as playing Prince Charles).

Spencer is scheduled for an autumn 2021 release in the UK and Ireland. What do you make of Stewart's casting? Let us know @Cineworld.
