Lashana Lynch is cast in the upcoming Matilda musical

Are you a Roald Dahl fan? Then it's good news: the Matilda musical is making its way to the big screen, and it's hoovering up some big names along the way.

Confirmed to be starring in the film: Lashana Lynch, soon to be playing new '00' agent Nomi in James Bond movie No Time To Die. As confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter, Lynch will be playing the gracious and warm-hearted Miss Honey, the schoolteacher who forms a loving relationship with the bookish Matilda. The character was played by Embeth Davidtz in Danny DeVito's terrific 1996 adaptation of the novel (Mara Wilson played the title character).

The musical adaptation is importing all of the key talent that helped turn the stage production into a huge success. This includes Matthew Warchus, artistic director of the Old Vic who scored a critical hit with 2014's Pride. Playwright Dennis Kelly and composer/lyricist Tim Minchin are also involved, aiming to translate their exuberant show tunes for the big screen. The production became a globe-spanning success story, winning multiple Tony Awards. Here's a reminder of its infectious spirit.

Sony-Tristar will be distributing the movie theatrically in the UK, before it's later released on Netflix. The role of Matilda has yet to be cast – who do you want to see in the role? Let us know @Cineworld.
