House of Gucci: new image of Lady Gaga and Adam Driver in Ridley Scott’s biopic

Renowned costumer Vivienne Westwood once described fashion as “life-enhancing”. And that’s certainly the case with this uber-stylish snapshot of Ridley Scott’s new Gucci biopic.

The movie, titled House of Gucci, dives headlong into the rivalries and calamitous tragedies that rocked one of the world’s most infamous fashion brands. And, as you can see, the movie has lined up two massive A-listers: A Star is Born’s Lady Gaga and Star Wars’ Adam Driver.

House of Gucci Lady Gaga Adam Driver

In the words of the official synopsis, we can expect “a film about the tumultuous Gucci family fashion dynasty and the murder of founder Guccio Gucci’s grandson Maurizio Gucci.”

Scott is the perfect director for this material since he flaunts visual style in practically every one of his films. Ever since the early days of The Duellists (1977) and Alien (1979), he’s been celebrated for his elaborately decorated sets and his ability to transport audiences into remarkable worlds. Classics like Blade Runner (1982), depicting a nightmarish 2019 Los Angeles, bear this out.

Of course, we shouldn’t be expecting sentient, humanoid robots to be running around in Scott’s latest movie. This will surely be a much more grounded affair exploring human frailty and hubris, perhaps more along the lines of his recent All the Money in the World (2017) – the movie in which Christopher Plummer replaced Kevin Spacey at the last minute in the role of tycoon John Paul Getty.

Driver stars as the ill-fated Maurizio and Gaga plays Maurizio’s complicit ex-wife Patrizia Reggiani, who was sent to prison for his murder and served 18 years. Meanwhile, the word excellent hardly describes the supporting cast. The Godfather’s Al Pacino joins Dead Ringers’ Jeremy Irons and Dallas Buyers Club’s Jared Leto – a suitably glitzy line-up that befits the subject matter.

House of Gucci is set for release in the UK on 24th November 2021. Excited? Let us know @Cineworld.
