1. The Matrix in IMAX and The Matrix in 4DX – Friday 3rd December

Open your mind as The Matrix makes its IMAX debut in Cineworld. The Wachowskis' sci-fi classic gains added dimensions via the curvature and immersive sound of the IMAX format – so rediscover the eye-widening story of Neo (Keanu Reeves) and his destiny to free mankind. 2. Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone – Saturday 4th December

Revisit Harry Potter's fledgling visit to Hogwarts in this 20th-anniversary re-issue of the classic family blockbuster. Daniel Radcliffe's Harry must realise his destiny in the movie that started it all, crammed with more effects, magic and British thespians than you can shake a broomstick at. Maggie Smith, Alan Rickman, Richard Harris and Robbie Coltrane feature among the scene-stealing supporting cast in this vibrant adaptation of J.K. Rowling's initial Potter novel.

3. Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas – Tuesday 7th December

From the mind of Batman filmmaker Tim Burton and Coraline director Henry Selick comes this deliciously morbid festive treat. Selick works from a concept devised by Burton, in which Jack Skellington, the gloriously macabre 'pumpkin king', discovers the magic of Christmas. Oh, and he's planning to kidnap the 'Sandy Claws' along the way. Buoyed by its angular stop-motion design and Danny Elfman's witty songs, this is a family musical quite unlike any other.

4. Elf – Tuesday 14th December

Will Ferrell hit the big time with his delightful role in Jon Favreau's Christmas comedy. Ferrell plays Buddy, a human raised by elves in the North Pole who travels to New York to meet his biological father. Mixing Ferrell's signature slapstick with a sweet/sour mixture of cynicism and sentiment, Elf has deservedly attained the status of a festive classic. James Caan, Zooey Deschanel, Mary Steenburgen and Peter Dinklage make up the excellent supporting cast.

5. Die Hard (Tuesday 21st December)

On Christmas Eve, tough New York detective John McClane arrives in Los Angeles with the aim of reconciling with his estranged wife, Holly at the Christmas party of her employer, the Nakatomi Corporation. When the party is disrupted by a group of heavily armed criminals led by the charismatic Hans Gruber, McClane evades capture and begins a one-man war against the hostage-takers who are attempting to rob the corporation whilst occupying the LAPD and the FBI by posing as terrorists. Outmanned, outgunned and ill-equipped for the task at hand, McClane calls in the help of a local beat cop in his crusade against Gruber.

6. It's a Wonderful Life (Thursday 23rd December)

In this festive Frank Capra masterpiece starring James Stewart, an angel is sent from Heaven to help a desperately frustrated businessman by showing him what life would have been like if he had never existed.
