Disney-Pixar's new Lightyear trailer takes us to infinity and beyond

Who could resist an origin story about one of the most famous toys in existence? That's the premise of the upcoming Disney-Pixar animation Lightyear, which focuses on the brave astronaut who inspired the creation of the classic Toy Story character. Here's the first official poster.

Captain America himself, Chris Evans, voices the titular, square-jawed Buzz Lightyear whose solar exploits led to him donning a certain, iconic white spacesuit. The first teaser trailer for Lightyear has more than enough breathtaking vistas to arrest the attention (it kind of looks like First Man for a family audience), plus a stirring underlying message about finding oneself.

With robotic cats and some very familiar-looking Zurg-style robots, we can expect a mixture of standalone fun and fan-pleasing nostalgia. Angus MacLane makes his solo directing debut, having co-directed 2016 Pixar sequel Finding Dory. He's something of a Pixar veteran, having worked as an animator from 1998's A Bug's Life to 2010's Toy Story 3. He also acted as a character designer on 2001's Monsters, Inc. and 2004's The Incredibles.

Check out the Lightyear trailer below. The movie is released in Cineworld cinemas on 17th June 2022.
