Here's a face you'll no doubt recognise: Johnny Flynn, the star of our Cineworld Unlimited idents, will be playing David Bowie in forthcoming biopic Stardust.
Flynn, who has recently been seen in BBC1's adaptation of Les Miserables, will play the music icon in a movie that explores Bowie's younger years. (He also starred in moody British drama Beast last year, which screened in advance for Cineworld Unlimited members.)
The movie focuses on Bowie's first visit to America in 1971. Hunger Games actress Jena Malone has also joined the project as Bowie's wife Angie and GLOW‘s Marc Maron will play Bowie’s record company publicist, according to Variety.
However, Bowie's son Duncan Jones, himself the successful director of Moon and Source Code, adds "as it stands, this movie won’t have any of dads music in it, & I can’t imagine that changing".
London-based producers Salon Films, working with Christopher Figg of Piccadilly Pictures, address this and say the movie is not a biopic: "It is a moment in time film at a turning point in David’s life, and is not reliant on Bowie’s music. Much like Nowhere Boy for John Lennon, or Control for Joy Division, the production uses period music and songs that Bowie covered, but not his original tracks."
