To infinity... and before? As part of Disney Investor Day, it's been announced that Toy Story space ranger Buzz Lightyear will be getting an origin story. The animated movie from Disney-Pixar has cast Captain America and Avengers star Chris Evans in the role of Buzz. Well, sort of. Let us explain.
Blasting into theaters June 17, 2022, Lightyear is the definitive story of the original Buzz Lightyear. Voiced by @ChrisEvans, get ready to go to “infinity and beyond” with Lightyear. 🚀 👨🚀 pic.twitter.com/LdYXlN33sP— Pixar (@Pixar) December 11, 2020
Before you get up in arms about Tim Allen's absence, it should be stressed that the movie, simply titled Lightyear, is based on the human character who inspired Buzz the toy. This was emphasised by Evans himself on Twitter.
I don’t even have the words. https://t.co/GHC8X6Yp7n— Chris Evans (@ChrisEvans) December 11, 2020
And just to be clear, this isn’t Buzz Lightyear the toy. This is the origin story of the human Buzz Lightyear that the toy is based on— Chris Evans (@ChrisEvans) December 11, 2020
We can't wait to see the stoic, square-jawed inspiration for the classic Disney-Pixar character. Especially if Evans taps into those growly, bass vocals he used in Edgar Wright's Scott Pilgrim vs the World.
Lightyear is scheduled for release on 17th June 2022. Excited? Let us know @Cineworld.
