Celebrate National Cinema Day at Cineworld on September 2nd

Do you live, breathe and eat movies? Of course you do – otherwise, you wouldn't be here, right? Therefore we're excited to announce the return of National Cinema Day on September 2nd.

Cineworld is proud to be a part of this industry-wide initiative, which is now in its second year. That means all films, all formats, all day for only £3.

Keep on reading for all the essential details on movies and formats.

What is National Cinema Day?

Put simply, National Cinema Day is championing the magic of the big screen, and you're invited to share that very same magic. The initiative has been developed by the cross-industry body Cinema First and is supported by the Film Distributors’ Association and the UK Cinema Association.

Iain Jacob, Chair of Cinema First, says: "There seems no better time than now to celebrate UK cinema-going, one of the nation’s favourite out-of-home leisure activities. Coming off the back of a very strong summer for the sector and looking forward to further film highlights over the rest of the year, we wanted to give everyone a chance to enjoy the big screen experience with the film of their choice."

How is Cineworld celebrating National Cinema Day?

As part of National Cinema Day, all Cineworld tickets are just £3! That means you can catch up on all the latest must-see blockbusters, family movies and event cinema for a fraction of the price, making special memories as you do so.

We know that the snacks are part of the experience so we have a special offer on National Cinema Day. Enjoy our National Cinema Day Special and get a regular popcorn with a regular drink for just £4* – and you can even upgrade to a large popcorn and a large drink for just £1 extra!

Does this mean all Cineworld formats are just £3?

Yes, it does! The question is, which format will you choose?

The expansive scope, enlarged screen ratio and immersive surround sound of IMAX invest bold and dynamic new life into your moviegoing experience.

4DX is a thrilling multisensory experience that is unique to Cineworld cinemas in the UK and Ireland. Moving seats combine with wind, rain, scents and other effects to put you in the heart of the action.

ScreenX is also exclusive to Cineworld cinemas. The state-of-the-art technology uses 270° projection, expanding the parameters of a given movie onto the side walls of the auditorium for a truly overwhelming and visceral experience.

Superscreen uses state-of-the-art projection, multidimensional sound powered by Dolby Atmos speakers and a bigger-than-usual screen to take your Cineworld experience to the next level.

What movies are showing at Cineworld on National Cinema Day?

There's clearly so much to experience on National Cinema Day. So, whether you want to catch up on movies you haven't yet seen or complete that all-important Barbenheimer double-bill, you'll be spoilt for choice.

Scroll down for details of specific viewing formats and the movies that will be playing.

IMAX

The IMAX remastering process brings hard-hitting clarity to Denzel Washington's new thriller, The Equalizer 3 (released August 30th in the UK in time for National Cinema Day). The Oscar-winning actor returns as the lethally efficient Robert McCall and you can revel in his visceral new adventure in the dimensions of IMAX.

And if you haven't yet experienced Christopher Nolan's staggering Oppenheimer in IMAX, National Cinema Day offers you the chance to do so. Be awed by the scale, colour and all-encompassing sound of Nolan's atomic-era drama, which sports a memorable central performance from Cillian Murphy.

4DX

Don't just passively watch The Equalizer 3 – feel every punch and blow dished out by the merciless Denzel Washington via the motion-controlled seats present in the 4DX format.

ScreenX

The 270-degree immersion of ScreenX comes at you from all sides of the auditorium. So, when Jason Statham yells 'shark' in the man vs beast actioner Meg 2: The Trench, it'll feel like the monstrous megalodon is bearing down on you for real.

The expanse of ScreenX makes the racing horizon seem endless in the full-throttle Gran Turismo. Step into the shoes of real-life gamer-turned-racer Jan Mardenborough and feel every twist and turn of the track as it comes at you.

And if you haven't yet seen Tom Cruise's latest onslaught of seat-clenching bravery in Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One, then go for the ScreenX option on National Cinema Day. Just imagine what the jaw-dropping motorbike jump will look like in 270-degree vision...

Superscreen

Enjoy the blockbusting Barbie in Superscreen where every glistening shade of pastel pink and every facet of Ryan Gosling's scene-stealing performance as Ken becomes even more memorable.

Superscreen also enlarges the scope and scale of Denzel Washington's vengeful mission in The Equalizer 3, transforming Italy's Amalfi Coast into a playground for explosive chaos and destruction.
