11 unforgettable Unlimited screenings from 2018

It's been a bonanza year for movies, and an equally incredible one for Cineworld Unlimited members. Over the past 12 months, we've been delighted to bring you advance screenings of some of the biggest films around.

So with 2019 just around the corner, we thought we'd recap some of the greatest Unlimited screenings of the year. How many of the following did you get to see? Scroll down to find out.

1. Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri

Writer-director Martin McDonagh's wickedly entertaining black comedy went on to triumph at the Academy Awards, with stars Frances McDormand and Sam Rockwell walking away with trophies. And lucky Unlimited members got to see it in advance of all the Oscars hype.

2. The Shape of Water

Guillermo del Toro's sumptuous fantasy-romance defied the usual Oscars stigma towards genre cinema, waltzing away with Academy Awards for Best Picture and Best Director.

3. I, Tonya

Margot Robbie landed her first Oscar nomination for her engrossing performance as disgraced figure skater Tonya Harding in this tongue-in-cheek biopic, one that gleefully blends fact and fourth-wall-breaking.

4. Ready Player One

Steven Spielberg returned to the forefront of blockbuster popcorn entertainment with this extravagantly nerdy staging of Ernest Cline's novel. Studded with references both overt and covert, it's a celebration of what it means to be a geek.

5. Isle of Dogs

Wes Anderson follows up his delightful Fantastic Mr. Fox with another intricately designed stop-motion fable, centering on a group of dogs inhabiting a trash heap off the coast of Japan. Beautifully designed and winningly voiced, it's Anderson through-and-through.

6. Beast

In a change of pace from blockbusters and Oscar-winning dramas, we proudly hosted a preview of this moody and atmospheric British thriller, the feature film debut of writer-director Michael Pearce with breakout performances from Jessie Buckley and Johnny Flynn.

7. Incredibles 2

No mere Unlimited screening, Disney-Pixar's triumphantly entertaining sequel, which was 14 years in the making, acted as our ninth Secret Screening. The ensuing rave reviews from the screening proved one thing absolute: the Incredibles still had the magic touch.

8. Crazy Rich Asians

This vibrant and charming adaptation of Kevin Kwan's autobiographical bestseller was a sure-fire crowd-pleaser. Both a sweet romance and topical examination of Asian family wealth, it has strong performances, wit and intelligence to spare.

9. A Star is Born

Bradley Cooper's directorial debut is poised to be the toast of the 2019 Oscars, and lucky Unlimited members got to see it in advance in October. Confidently directed with powerful musical numbers, and riding on the tangible chemistry between Cooper and sensational co-star Lady Gaga, it's little wonder this fourth take on A Star is Born proved such an enormous hit.

10. The Hate U Give

Our 10th Unlimited Secret Screening was this powerful race-relations drama, one that uses a teen-friendly framework (adapted from Angie Thomas' novel) to explore provocative issues of diversity and identity. Amandla Stenberg leads a superb cast.

11. Green Book

Our final Secret Unlimited Screening of the year went down a treat with audiences. Green Book is the heartfelt and hilarious true story of a racially charged road trip across the American deep south, with winning performances from Viggo Mortensen and a Golden Globe nominated Mahershala Ali.
