In this first shot from the upcoming Barbie movie, star Margot Robbie is very much a Barbie girl in a Barbie world. (We wonder if she's also an Aqua fan.)
The Oscar-nominated star of The Wolf of Wall Street, I, Tonya and Bombshell is bringing the famous Mattel symbol to vibrant, resonant life. Robbie is collaborating with Little Women and Lady Bird director Greta Gerwig to give us the live-action Barbie movie we never knew we needed.
Ryan Gosling, Kate McKinnon, Will Ferrell and Simu Liu are among the big names in the supporting cast. Produced by Paddington and Harry Potter's David Heyman, the Barbie movie is purported to be incorporating a meta aspect to its storyline with Ferrell portraying the CEO of a toy company.
As announced at Las Vegas CinemaCon, the Barbie movie is scheduled for release (in the USA at least) on 21st July 2023. Stay tuned for specifics on the UK release date.
