Powerful drama The Children Act is out now in Cineworld, adapted by author Ian McEwan from his own novel.
The movie is the story of a High Court judge (played by Oscar-winner Emma Thompson) who, in the midst of a crumbling marriage, takes on a particularly difficult legal case. The subject in question is a young, devout Jehovah's Witness (Dunkirk's Fionn Whitehead) who is refusing a life-saving blood transfusion on the basis of his faith.
It's a movie that asks difficult questions and elicits strong performances from its cast, also including Stanley Tucci as Thompson's on-screen husband. We caught up with director Richard Eyre, a theatre veteran who has directed the films Iris and Notes on a Scandal, to discuss Thompson's formidable contribution to the drama, among other things.
