Vice Unlimited screening: what's the reaction to Christian Bale as Dick Cheney?

Christian Bale is on course for an Oscar nomination with his remarkable portrayal of former US vice president Dick Cheney in satirical comedy Vice.

Bale piles on the pounds for another transformative role in a movie that explores Cheney's rise to power across the decades. Written and directed with a sense of impassioned anger and wit by The Big Short's Adam McKay, the film co-stars Amy Adams as Lynne Cheney and Sam Rockwell as President George W. Bush.

Cineworld Unlimited members got to preview Bale's Golden Globe-winning turn during last night's Unlimited screening, and the reactions are in. We'll start with this from Katie who's tipping the actor for the top prize.

Benjazuzu is another viewer who lauds Bale's portrayal, as well as the movie's deep dive into a chilling period in recent political history.

Katie Samuel praises the movie as an insightful examination into the controversial 'Dubya' era.

JuliaLovesRain89 says praise should also be reserved for another key member of the ensemble.

And Sophia says people should prepare themselves for an onslaught of big laughs and hard truths.

Unsurprisingly given the nature of the material, them movie also generated some polarized reactions. Jon Watkins says those without an in-depth knowledge of the subject might struggle to engage with it.

And Sam Crosby-Browne says McKay's script, although ambitious, could have used more focus.
