Christian Bale is on course for an Oscar nomination with his remarkable portrayal of former US vice president Dick Cheney in satirical comedy Vice.
Bale piles on the pounds for another transformative role in a movie that explores Cheney's rise to power across the decades. Written and directed with a sense of impassioned anger and wit by The Big Short's Adam McKay, the film co-stars Amy Adams as Lynne Cheney and Sam Rockwell as President George W. Bush.
Cineworld Unlimited members got to preview Bale's Golden Globe-winning turn during last night's Unlimited screening, and the reactions are in. We'll start with this from Katie who's tipping the actor for the top prize.
I enjoyed it. Christian Bale was very impressive and gave a committed performance as Dick Cheney, he was almost unrecognisable. I can definitely see him being nominated at the Oscars.

Unsurprisingly given the nature of the material, them movie also generated some polarized reactions. Jon Watkins says those without an in-depth knowledge of the subject might struggle to engage with it.
I really liked it but I think you need to have at least a passing interest in American politics to get the most out of it. With this type of film you don’t really know how much fact is mixed in with Artistic Licence to make for a better story.

And Sam Crosby-Browne says McKay's script, although ambitious, could have used more focus.
Deep end performances from the entire cast (shout out to a brilliant Rockwell) but seems as though the film had TOO much to say and ended up only scratching the surface on big topics. Incredibly entertaining but consider it a story told unevenly and without any real direction.
