Exclusive interview: Samuel L. Jackson talks Captain Marvel

Captain Marvel is out now in Cineworld and promises to send the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) off in exciting new directions.

It's the first MCU movie to be led by a woman, in this case Brie Larson's title character. Captain Marvel is an outer-space warrior fighting for the Kree race, but she's haunted by memories of her origins on earth as human air force pilot Carol Danvers.

The movie is directed by the Half Nelson and Mississippi Grind duo of Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden – the latter is the first woman to helm an MCU movie. And given the movie is set in 1995, it not only allows for plenty of pop culture nostalgia but also the chance to meet the younger Nick Fury.

At the time the film is set, Fury is in his S.H.I.E.L.D. heyday and finds himself galvanised by Captain Marvel's arrival on Earth. Actor Samuel L. Jackson has been de-aged via the miracle of cutting-edge CGI, meaning the years simply float away. And we were delighted to catch up with the great man himself to discuss this and other important topics – check out our interview below.
