Encanto: latest trailer and poster for the new Disney animation

Encanto is the latest animated feature from Walt Disney Animation Studios, the team behind Frozen, Wreck-It Ralph and other modern classics. A new trailer and poster have landed to tease the film's Central American setting, the first time this part of the globe has featured in a Disney animated movie.

Here's the official synopsis: "The film tells the tale of the Madrigals, an extraordinary family who live in a wondrous, charmed place called an Encanto. Each child has been blessed with a magic gift unique to them—each child except Mirabel. But when the family’s home is threatened, Mirabel may be their only hope."

Could this do for Latin America what Disney-Pixar's Coco did for Mexico? Certainly, we've got the luscious-looking visuals and emphasis on family heritage, and Encanto's musical credentials are also impeccable. The movie features all-new songs from Hamilton supremo and Moana Disney veteran Lin-Manuel Miranda, who collaborates with Zootropolis directors Byron Howard and Jared Bush.

The voice cast includes Stephanie Beatriz (star of Miranda's very own In the Heights) as Mirabel; María Cecilia Botero as Mirabel’s grandmother Alma aka Abuela; Angie Cepeda and Wilmer Valderrama as Mirabel’s parents, Julieta and Agustín; and Diane Guererro and Jessica Darrow as Mirabel’s sisters, Isabela and Luisa. Also lending their voices are Carolina Gaitán and Mauro Castillo as Mirabel’s aunt and uncle, Pepa and Félix; and Adassa, Rhenzy Feliz and Ravi Cabot-Conyers as Mirabel’s cousins Dolores, Camilo and Antonio, respectively.

Ice Age's John Leguizamo has also been added to the cast as Mirabel's clairvoyant uncle Bruno. Leguizamo says of the movie: "“I was so pumped to be asked to the party. Lin-Manuel [Miranda] wrote me a rap, and I flipped out! Plus, this is such a beautiful story set in Colombia. It's a first in so many ways. The magic is enchanting, the comedy is so sharp, and the world created is irresistible."

Get the party started with Encanto when it's released in Cineworld cinemas on 24th November 2021.
