Few of Marvel's superheroes have endured as much as Captain America. Having fought his way through World War II, he then put himself on ice in order to save the planet, only to later be thawed out in a far more complex 21st century world, one that continually challenged his patriotic ideals.
His journey reached a turning point in last year's Civil War, in which he was pitted against his former ally Tony Stark/Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) The movie ended with two of Marvel's most iconic heroes going their separate ways.
So what does the future hold in the next chapter, Avengers: Infinity War? Well the movie is going to make the ensemble battles of Avengers: Age of Ultron and Civil War look like petty playground scraps.
In an interview with The Telegraph actor Chris Evans is giving little away but confirms Rogers' appearance. Given the sheer amount of characters jostling for screen time it's little surprise that the Avengers storyline is requiring two movies to wrap itself up. Evans says this influenced his decision to stay on for the series after Infinity War, extending his contract to cover one more movie.
"I had six films in my Marvel contract, so I could have said after the third Avengers I was done, but they wanted to make the third and fourth Avengers films as a two-parter," Evans says. "They said they had so many other characters to fit in — Guardians of the Galaxy, Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Doctor Strange, Ant Man – and couldn’t get them all into one movie … It made sense. It’s going to wrap everything up."
Evans also revealed his commitment fears when first joining the MCU, and his anxiety that contractually dedicating himself to six movies might swallow up his entire career: "Because if things worked out, I’d have to do all six of them. And at the time, that was the most terrifying aspect of it. That it was going to be so dominating, all-encompassing."
