Never Been Seen: epic movies in 4DX for the first time

Have you yet to experience 4DX in Cineworld? Well, there's never been a better time to do so with the return of our 'Never Been Seen' event.

On 31st August, you get to enjoy classic blockbusters back on the big screen, presented in 4DX for the very first time ever in the UK and Ireland. 'Never Been Seen' went down a storm with viewers last year, and we're now delighted to bring you a host of new films in the format.

But first a little explanation...

What is 4DX?

4DX is a multisensory experience where effects such as moving chairs, scents, wind and rain are used to enhance the moviegoing experience.

How does 4DX work?

4DX screens have high-tech motion seats that move in perfect synchronization with the film. But there's more: on top of the moving seats, special effects are added in line with the action on screen. These effects include wind, water, fog, lightning, bubbles, rain, scents and snow. The film itself can be in both 2D and 3D formats.

What movies are showing as part of 4DX 'Never Been Seen'?

Now that you know what 4DX is, you'll naturally want to read more about the movies that are playing in the format this year. Just to reiterate: this is the first time any of the following movies have been screened in 4DX, and all Cineworld cinemas in the UK and Ireland are participating.

Revisit your childhood with Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. First released in 2001, this kick-started one of the biggest movie franchises of all time, as Daniel Radcliffe's boy wizard took his first steps into Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

From Hogwarts to hot-rods: Vin Diesel and the team fire up the turbo-chargers in Fast & Furious 6. The sixth instalment in the automotive franchise pits Diesel's Dom Toretto and Dwayne Johnson's Luke Hobbs against the forces of Luke Evans's villain Owen Shaw.

We're also delighted to be screening one of the finest movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU): Guardians of the Galaxy. Chris Pratt shot to super-stardom with his role as the affable Star Lord in director James Gunn's irresistible mixture of retro soundtrack and thrilling space opera adventure.

And finally, the Autobots are back in Transformers: Age of Extinction. High prince of the pyrotechnic, Michael Bay, wrangles stars Mark Wahlberg, plus a whole host of insane set-pieces, in a blockbuster tailor-made for the 4DX format.

What does 4DX add to our favourite movies?

Well, that of course depends entirely on the movie that you're watching.

The broomstick training and aerial Quidditch scenes of Harry Potter are a custom fit for 4DX's moving seats, which help immerse you in the title character's magical world.

Similarly, the sense of movement is pivotal to the visceral experience of Fast & Furious 6, which with its onslaught of souped-up cars is designed to leave you exhilarated.

Then there are the effects. The brooding towers and magical landscapes of Harry Potter gain added dimensions from smoke, lightning and rain, as do the interstellar environments of Guardians of the Galaxy, particularly in the scenes set on far-off planets like Morag.

As for Transformers – well, the whole lot is thrown at you the viewer in order to simulate the purest Michael Bay moviegoing experience imaginable. Flinch at the Autobot vs Decepticon battles and feel the wind rush past as these ancient enemies do battle.
