A sumptuous drama exploring the turbulent personal and professional lives of the great French couturier.
In 1957 Paris, 21-year-old Yves Saint Laurent (Pierre Niney) finds himself unexpectedly catapulted to international fame. His celebrated employer Christian Dior has just died suddenly and Yves is appointed his successor. At his first catwalk show, he meets Pierre Bergé (Guillaume Galienne), who will become his lover and business partner. His rise to the pinnacle of the fashion industry suffers a temporary setback when he's fired. But Yves and Pierre bounce back, creating the Yves Saint Laurent fashion house, whose revolutionary 'ready to wear' collection shocks the world of couture. Jalil Lespert's biopic of the charismatic designer who battled personal demons as he democratised fashion in the swinging sixties is handsomely staged and brilliantly acted. Shot on location in Paris and Morocco, it also features original clothes from the Yves Saint Laurent haute couture collection archive.
