Summer of 1939 - Zosia (Michalina Łabacz) is a young Polish girl who is deeply in love with a Ukrainian, Petro (Wasyl Wasylik). Their great love will be put to the test when her father decides to marry her to wealthy widower Skiba (Arkadiusz Jakubik). Right after the wedding she is left alone because her husband is drafted to the Polish army for the war with Germany. Meanwhile, tensions arise from living side by side with Jews, Poles and Ukrainians. Zosia is witness to an increasing number of acts of violence. The culmination of the tensions will be a slaughter of the Polish people by ruthless bandits of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army and Polish actions of self-defense.
