The National Theatre present their emotional production of Charlotte Bronte's classic novel. Raised as a destitute orphan and later taken in as a pupil at the grim Lowood School, Jane Eyre struggles to maintain an outlook of happiness. However, when she is accepted as a governess at the forbidding home of the mysterious Lord Rochester, Jane unexpectedly finds herself falling in love with her master. Along the way, she experiences both bitterness and joy, as she vows to remain true to her own heart. Since its initial publication in 1847, Charlotte Bronte's timeless novel has been feted as one of the greatest ever written, the headstrong yet vulnerable character of Jane transforming the portrayal of women in literature. Following its acclaimed staging at Bristol's Old Vic Theatre in 2014, director Sally Cookson's celebrated production now comes to the National Theatre to enchant a whole new audience.
