Tamil star Vishal breaks new ground in Pandiraj's thrilling, ultra-realistic action movie. This high-octane action drama boasts an intriguing premise. Director Pandiraj has given away little about his fact-based story, but he told one interviewer: "In everyone's life, there are instances when a phone call, a chance meeting or an incident can change his/her entire life. Kathakali is about one such event that changes the hero's life decisively." Said hero is played by Vishal, who also serves as producer and is expected to surprise fans in a completely different role from the ones he normally plays. Pandiraj deliberately cut out all the comedy from the script to make his film as lean and taut as possible, grounded in tough, gritty action sequences. It's the director's biggest-budgeted movie to date, and his first fully-fledged action film. The female lead is Catherine Tresa and music is by acclaimed Tamil hip-hop duo Hiphop Tamizha.
