A compelling female-centred drama of tragedy and guilt from the great Spanish director Pedro Almodovar. Middle-aged Julieta (Emma Suarez) is about to move from Madrid to Portugal with her partner when a chance meeting re-ignites long-suppressed feelings about her estranged daughter. Back in the 1980s, the young punky blonde Julieta (Adriana Ugarte) meets handsome fisherman Xoan (Daniel Grao) during a fateful train journey. They go on to marry and have a child together. Based on a trio of linked short stories by the award-winning Canadian writer Alice Munro, Spanish auteur Pedro Almodovar's beautifully crafted 20th film skilfully intertwines the stories of the older and younger Julieta as it explores the riddle of her life. Exquisitely staged with a superb jazz score by Alberto Iglesias, this intriguing, involving and visually stunning melodrama sees Almodovar returning to the themes of his most acclaimed films, such as 'Talk to Her' and 'Volver'.
