BAFTA winner for Best Film, Director Richard Linklater and Supporting Actress Patricia Arquette - filmed over 12 years, Richard Linklater's astonishing, innovative drama charts a boy's journey through adolescence. Back in 2002, single mother Olivia (Patricia Arquette) is struggling to raise her children - six-year-old Mason (Ellar Coltrane) and his older sister Samantha (Lorelei Linklater). Unreliable dad Mason Sr. (Ethan Hawke) shows up mainly at weekends. The family then relocate to Houston. Over the next 12 years, the film charts Mason growth from young boy to man. What's so remarkable about this insightful, groundbreaking drama is that director Richard Linklater used the same cast throughout. As a result, we witness young Mason experiencing the joys and pains of adolescence as he grows up before our eyes. Linklater also cast his own daughter Lorelei as Mason's sister. The result is an extraordinarily moving companion piece to the director's 'Before' trilogy that last year concluded with 'Before Midnight'.
