Dakota Fanning plays a radical '60s teen who tears her family apart in Ewan McGregor's directorial debut. Seymour 'Swede' Levov (Ewan McGregor) seems to lead a charmed and perfect life. A former high school football star, he married Dawn (Jennifer Connelly), the beautiful former Miss New Jersey, and is now a successful businessman. But this is the strife-ridden America of the 1960s. As she becomes a teenager, the couple's suttering only child Merry (Dakota Fanning) finds herself drawn to revolutionary politics. Beginning with peaceful protests against the Vietnam War, her radicalism leads to a shocking act that destroys the family from within. 'Trainspotting' star Ewan McGragor's directorial debut is skilfully adapted from Philip Roth's ambitious, Pulitzer Prize-winning novel exploring the post-war generational divide in America. Spanning more than two eventful decades, this wrenchingly emotional tragedy boasts powerhouse performances from Dakota Fanning as the combative Merry and McGregor himself as her heartbroken father.
