A bad boy superhero sets out to turn his life around in this quirky, thrill-packed comedy drama. Melvin (Stephen Dorff) is something of a wastrel who lives in a run-down New Orleans neighbourhood, where his best buddy is a cantankerous, disabled war veteran named Lucille (Eddie Griffin). He also has amazing telekinetic powers, which he uses mainly to show off at parties. But his hard-living ways have led to estrangement from ex-wife Doreen (Keena Ferguson). This prevents him being a proper dad to his young son, Rex (Jonathan Billions). When a health scare prompts Melvin to re-evaluate his life, he decides to clean up his act by turning his extraordinary superpowers on the drug-dealing criminals who infest the streets. British writer/director Nick Love, who gave us that high-octane modern makeover of 'The Sweeney', delivers an offbeat superhero movie with plenty of heart, loads of laughs and no shortage of eye-popping special effects.
