Travelling by Metro:
To reach The Gate by Metro you can exit at either St James’ Park or Haymarket Metro stations. You’ll find The Gate on Newgate Street, opposite Eldon Square shopping centre.
From the Haymarket turn left onto Percy Street, which links in to Newgate Street.
From St James’ Park, head towards St Andrews, crossing Gallowgate and passing under the Chinese Arch. At the bottom of the hill, turn right onto Newgate Street, around the Premiere Inn, and you’ll find The Gate straight ahead.

Travelling By Bus:
The Gate is only a 5 minute walk away from the Haymarket and Eldon Square bus stations. From the bus station, (with your back to Marks and Spencer) turn left on to Percy Street, which links in to Newgate Street.

Travelling by Train:
Nearby Newcastle Central station, is only a 10 minute walk from the cinema.
From the station, cross over the road, and turn left. Follow the road round to the right onto Clayton Street. Go straight over the first two cross roads, then turn left onto Newgate Street.

From the North
From the A1
Exit the A1 onto the A167 (City Centre), then follow signs to the A189 (City West) following it around until it becomes Barrack Road and you see St James’ Park on your left. At the lights turn left onto Gallowgate briefly, then turn right through the Chinese Arch onto St. Andrews, and first right again onto Stowell Street. Underground parking for The Gate is on your left.
From Northern Newcastle, Jesmond and Gosforth
With the current road restrictions on Percy Street and in the Leazes area, the best way to reach The Gate is to turn onto Grandstand Road (A189) from the Blue House roundabout following it across the A167 until it becomes Barrack Road. Pass St James’ Park and at the lights turn left onto Gallowgate briefly, then turn right through the Chinese Arch onto St. Andrews, and first right again onto Stowell Street. Underground parking for The Gate is on your left.
From the West (Hexham, Corbridge, Carlisle)
From the A69 turn onto the A1 southbound, then take the next exit for the city centre. Follow signs for the A695 (Scotswood Road) then follow this right to the end, staying in the right hand lane signed ‘City Centre’ which bends left onto St James’ Boulevard. Continue until you reach the lights at Gallowgate (St James’ Park will be on your left). Go right onto Gallowgate briefly, then turn right onto St. Andrews, and first right again onto Stowell Street. Underground parking for The Gate is on your left.
From the East
From the A1058 (Coast Road) follow signs to Newcastle, along Jesmond Road and then onto the A167 signposted The North. Continue to the third exit sign posted City West/Ashington, immediately turning left again onto the A189. Follow this road along until it becomes Barrack road and you pass St James’ Park. At the lights turn left onto Gallowgate briefly, then turn right through the Chinese Arch onto St. Andrews, and first right again onto Stowell Street. Underground parking for The Gate is on your left.
From the South
From the A1 exit to the A184 signposted City Centre, then follow signs to the A189 (Newcastle). Continue along the A189 staying in the right hand lane and exiting across the Redheugh Bridge. Continue straight ahead until at the lights at Gallowgate (you’ll see St James’ Park ahead on your left) then turn right onto Gallowgate briefly, right through the Chinese Arch onto St. Andrews, and first right again onto Stowell Street. Underground parking for The Gate is on your left.
Full wheelchair access is on offer in all screens. An infra-red sound system is installed in all auditoriums for those guests who are hard of hearing. Audio Description is available in all auditoria, check cinema listings for available features/performances.
Selected Performances are also available with Subtitles on Sunday (late afternoon) and Monday evening.
