Director Bryan Singer posts photo of James McAvoy in X-Men: Apocalypse

Last week, we brought you buzz on X-Men: Apocalypse, with director Bryan Singer promising a "monster of a movie."

Well, the filmmaker has now hosted a new photo to his Instagram account, showing a bald-headed James McAvoy in the make-up chair as Charles Xavier.

Yes, after smash-hit movies X-Men: First Class and X-Men: Days of Future Past, McAvoy is finally getting the Patrick Stewart look for his role as the cerebral leader of the mutant heroes.

Even so, given that Singer is referring to Xavier as "reborn," can we expect a clever twist on this classic comic book character? If so, it would be in-keeping with the intriguing storyline of Apocalypse, one that introduces younger incarnations of X-Men mutants like Nightcrawler and Storm.

More news on X-Men: Apocalypse as it comes in. The movie is released in 2016.
