The first critical reactions to Wonder Woman are in!

There's a lot riding on Wonder Woman, the latest superhero blockbuster to emerge from the DC Movie Universe.

Not only does it have to restore the critical reputation of the franchise, which took a battering in the wake of Batman v. Superman and Suicide Squad. It's also the first DCEU movie led by a woman superhero (played by Gal Gadot) and directed by a woman too (Patty Jenkins).

So what have critics made of it?

Pleasingly, the first responses are very positive – more than that in fact, they border on the effusive, indicating that this could be the greatest DC shared universe movie so far. We'll start with Fandango critic Erik Davis who praises the movie as an across-the-board success.

The hype continues with Collider editor Steven Weintraub who lauds the chemistry between Gadot's superhero and Chris Pine's fighter pilot, Steve Trevor.

Business Insider's Jason Guerassio praises director Patty Jenkins for bringing Diana Prince's solo movie to the big screen.

Germain Lussier of the Gizmodo parish says the movie delivers with its spectacular action sequences.

And writer/podcaster Dave Schilling confirms what we've all wanted to hear: that this is a DC movie with a genuine sense of humour.

That's just a little taster of the critical responses. You'll be able to make your own mind up when Wonder Woman is released on 1st June.
