In 1982 they drew first blood, and in 2019 he'll draw the last – so runs the pumped-up premise of Rambo: Last Blood, the fifth (yes, count them) instalment of the rock 'em sock 'em Sylvester Stallone action franchise.
Stallone's tormented Vietnam veteran John Rambo shot to iconic status in 1982's First Blood, a gritty action-thriller that gave rise to increasingly cartoonish (though entertaining) sequels in 1985 and 1988. There then followed a 20 year gap, until the character resurfaced in the far east in 2008's insanely gruesome Rambo. And now he's back for (purportedly) one final showdown.
Last Blood picks up with Rambo living on a farm where he's drawn into a deadly battle with violent enemies. The official synopsis is as follows:
Almost four decades after he drew first blood, Sylvester Stallone is back as one of the greatest action heroes of all time, John Rambo. Now, Rambo must confront his past and unearth his ruthless combat skills to exact revenge in a final mission. A deadly journey of vengeance, RAMBO: LAST BLOOD marks the last chapter of the legendary series.
Stallone continues his late-period, Creed-era career renaissance with plenty of arrow-wielding action that belies his 72 years. The new movie looks to fuse the combat techniques emphasised in the classic original movie with the ultra-violence of the most recent instalment. Plus, he totally rocks that stetson – check out the trailer below.
Rambo: Last Blood is released on 20th September so tweet us @Cineworld if this has blasted onto your must-see list.
