Following Disney's animated adventure Wreck-It Ralph (2012), titular arcade game baddie Ralph (John C. Reilly) and his pint-sized sidekick Vanellope (Sarah Silverman) are busting out of the arcade and poised to go viral. That's the story of hotly anticipated sequel Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2, arriving in Cineworld cinemas in November.
Ralph might be breaking the internet, but it is his adorable pal Vanellope von Schweetz that is breaking our hearts and stealing the show. Here's why we're excited for the return of everyone's favourite racer-turned-princess…
1. She's not your average Disney princess
Shunning the fancy gowns in favour of her trademark green hoodie, Vanellope is certainly not your average Disney princess. Although there was a reveal of her royal credentials towards the end of the first Wreck-It Ralph, Vanellope instead continues to favour the race-track over the royal palace.
In Ralph Breaks the Internet, she gets to meet some of Disney's most famous princesses in a scene that has already taken the internet by storm. These classic Disney princesses aren't going to know what has hit them and we can't wait to see how Vanellope shakes things up…
2. She has the best one-liners
Don't let her small stature fool you, this feisty racer has all the best put-downs and comebacks in the Wreck-It Ralph universe. She hilariously outwits Ralph in the first movie, and has a seemingly never-ending supply of inventive nicknames for him.
It helps of course that Vanellope is voiced by comedy star Sarah Silverman, who ensures that the character utterly steals the show and garners some of the biggest laughs. Silverman's big personality, unique tones, and quick wit are the perfect fit for Vanellope, and ensures that whilst she may be tiny, she is capable of making a big impression.
3. She never gives up
Perhaps one of the most endearing qualities about Vanellope is that she is tenacious, determined, and resourceful, even when the odds are stacked against her. In the first movie, we see her battling through her "glitch" (or "Pixlexia" as she calls it), learning not just to accept it, but also to utilise it to her best advantage... and win plenty of races because of it.
Although the other residents of candy-coated game Sugar Rush do everything in their power to stop her from racing, Vanellope shows she is not to be messed with, building her own kart and learning to drive herself – with a little help from Ralph of course.
It's this can-do attitude and her positive outlook on life that endears us to Vanellope, and we don't doubt she'll be on fine form once again in the sequel, fixing whatever scrapes her and Ralph manage to get themselves into.
4. She's a true friend
She'd never admit it, but Vanellope is really quite sweet at her core, and despite the sassy exterior, she proves time and time again that she is a friend Ralph can really depend on. After using his medal to secure her entry into a race, Vanellope then decides to help Ralph win the medal back, and teach him some valuable lessons along the way.
She nearly always sees the good guy in Ralph, even when he fails to see it himself, and in one of the most heartwarming parts of the first movie, she even presents him with his own homemade hero medal to show her appreciation.
They might appear to be the unlikeliest of pals, but we can't wait to see this dynamic duo lighting up the big screen again when Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2 arrives on 30th November.
