Cute or creepy? Fantasy or furball? There's no denying the first Cats trailer, released back in July, sharply divided opinion. And the latest promo teases more of the film's distinctive look, which relies on flesh and blood actors rendered as furry felines.
Cats is adapted from Andrew Lloyd Webber's blockbusting stage musical by director Tom Hooper, himself a musical veteran off the back of the Oscar-winning Les Miserables. And he's got an all-star cast to help fashion those all-important memories, including Taylor Swift, Jennifer Hudson, Jason Derulo, Idris Elba, Judi Dench and Ian McKellen.
The story is centrally focused on Victoria, played by the Royal Ballet's Francesca Hayward. The plot synopsis is as follows: "Over the course of a single night, a tribe of cats called the Jellicles make what is known as 'the Jellicle choice' and decide which cat will ascend to the Heaviside Layer and come back to a new life."
Swift and Webber have composed a new song for the movie, entitled 'Beautiful Ghosts', and the dance sequences are choreographed by Hamilton's Andy Blankenbuehler. So will Cats ultimately emerge as a classic movie musical? Watch the trailer and tweet us your comments @Cineworld. Cats is released on the 20th of December.
