Watch Taron Egerton as Elton John in the new Rocketman trailer

screen-poster

Earlier this week, we were stunned by the reveal of Taron Egerton's singing as Elton John in Rocketman. Now, with the new trailer, we can hear the actor's singing abilities in context.

The movie is directed by Dexter Fletcher and recaps the music icon's transition from unassuming Reginald Dwight to pop supremo Elton John. Spurred on by pure ambition and dreams of success, Dwight rises from talented young pianist into one of the world's most recognisable and celebrated artists, supported by songwriting partner Bernie Taupin (Jamie Bell) and manager John Reid (Richard Madden).

The trailer reveals the embryonic stages of Elton John's flamboyant persona, from the platform shoes to the garish outfits and hedonistic parties that resulted in plenty of drink-fuelled mania. However, the movie also stresses his humble roots and the formative years spent at the household piano playing in front of his mother, Sheila (Bryce Dallas Howard).

Egerton's singing has already been lauded by both Fletcher and John himself, and there's no denying his physical resemblance to the great man either. Check out the new trailer below.

Rocketman is released in the UK on 24th May, so tweet us @Cineworld if you think Egerton will deliver a definitive performance.
