Top Gun: Maverick unleashes a squadron of new images

It's time to fire up that Kenny Loggins playlist and gaze wistfully into the sunset while wearing a pair of Aviator specs. Because a batch of fresh Top Gun: Maverick images have been unleashed, introducing the film's brand new recruits.

As per the 1985 movie, the story is anchored by Tom Cruise's cocky fighter pilot Maverick. Only this time, he's under orders to train a batch of trainees, one of whom is Lt. Bradley 'Rooster' Bradshaw – better known as the son of Maverick's deceased wingman, Goose (Anthony Edwards).

Rooster is played by Whiplash star Miles Teller – fingers crossed that he can bring some suitably volatile and explosive chemistry to his scenes with Cruise. And the other candidates are as follows: Glen Powell as 'Hangman', Monica Barbaro as 'Phoenix', Lewis Pullman as 'Bob', Jay Ellis as 'Payback' and Danny Ramirez as 'Fanboy'.

Director Joseph Kosinski (who worked with Cruise on 2013's Oblivion) steps in for the late Tony Scott, and the original film's producer Jerry Bruckheimer is back on board. Meanwhile, the first movie's composer Harold Faltermeyer is set to collaborate with Hans Zimmer on the score, and the aforementioned Kenny Loggins will be presenting a re-recording of his anthemic classic, 'Danger Zone'.

Top Gun: Maverick soars into Cineworld cinemas on the 17th of July. Let us know @Cineworld if it's on your must-see list.
