The search for a truly great video game movie continues – but it looks like we can pin a lot of hope on the new Tomb Raider film starring Alicia Vikander as videogaming's greatest adventurer, Lara Croft. The first trailer has arrived – but before that here's the teaser poster.
Having stormed the Oscars with her powerful role in The Danish Girl, Vikander now looks to be packing plenty of sass and physical chops as Lara. We pick up with the character having abandoned her aristocratic roots to become a London bike courier, only to be lured back into a world of adventure when discovering a message from her long-dead father Lord Richard (Dominic West).
Suffice it to say, there are leaps into the unknown, leaps into the sea and much more leaping as Lara battles a mysterious organisation named Trinity, whose potential discovery of an ancient tomb threatens the entire world. The Hateful Eight's Walton Goggins meanwhile chews the jungly scenery as the baddie.
Directed by Roar Uthaug, who delivered one of the best disaster movies of recent years with 2016's The Wave, this looks to have the visual gloss of the rebooted Tomb Raider games with Vikander promising to put the memory of Angelina Jolie's preceding movies firmly in the ground.
Check out the trailer below and let us know @Cineworld if you think this will be the saviour of video game movies. Tomb Raider is released in March 2018.
