Things get personal for Lara Croft in the action-packed new trailer for this year's Tomb Raider reboot.
Adopting the glossier look and death-defying physics of the recent Tomb Raider games, the movie casts Oscar winner Alicia Vikander as Lara. Promising to lay the spirit of Angelina Jolie to rest, this Lara is on a mission to discover an island located in the middle of the remote Devil's Sea. The aim: to discover what happened to her aristocratic long-lost father, Sir Richard Croft (Dominic West).
Whilst there, she comes across more than just the standard-issue booby traps, chasms and archaeological secrets. It turns out Sir Richard's nemesis, Mathias Vogel (Walton Goggins), has been stranded on the island for several years, plotting a global genocide in the name of his organisation, Trinity. And Lara has to stop them.
With Vikander promising both emotional heft and a commitment to her own stunts, plus plenty of action overseen by director Roar Uthaug (responsible for terrific Norwegian disaster movie The Wave), there are plenty of reasons to expect a honest to goodness popcorn blockbuster. Will this become the defining Tomb Raider movie? Watch the trailer and judge for yourself.
