Tickets are now on sale for Christopher Nolan’s new WW2 epic, Dunkirk.
The Brit director (whose work includes the Dark Knight trilogy and Interstellar) has a reputation for crafting intelligent and thoughtful, but action-rich blockbusters, and now he turns his attentions to one of the most crucial moments of the Second World War, when more than 300,000 Allied soldiers, trapped on the shores of northern France and surrounded by German troops, miraculously escaped across the English Channel.
With an all-star cast including Kenneth Branagh, Mark Rylance, Tom Hardy and Cillian Murphy, this inspirational epic will surely stir the heart and wow the eyes. And though the director isn’t describing Dunkirk as a “war movie”, it certainly sounds as if it’s an intense and thrilling watch.
“It's a survival story first and foremost,” Nolan says. “So while there is a high level of intensity to it, it does not necessarily concern itself with the bloody aspects of combat, which have been so well done in so many films."
