Twenty-seven years ago actor Tim Curry crept into a generation’s nightmares when he donned the circus makeup for the role of Pennywise the Clown in the TV mini-series of Stephen King’s horror classic, It. But who’s the man who’ll be taking on the role in Andrés Muschietti’s new version, coming later this year? Here’s everything you need to know about Bill Skarsgård...
He’s got a famous dad
Bill’s pa is Stellan Skarsgård, whom you’ll definitely recognise from his role as Dr. Erik Selvig in four Marvel movies, as well as his appearances in Good Will Hunting, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, two Pirates of the Caribbean films and Mamma Mia!. Bill was born on 9 August 1990 in Vällingby, Sweden to Skarsgård and his first wife, My.
You’ll know his brother too
Bill has seven siblings, the most famous of which is his big brother, Alexander. Yep, that Alexander Skarsgård, from Zoolander, War on Everyone and The Legend of Tarzan. There’s some impressive acting DNA going on with that family.
He may not be QUITE as sky-scraping as his brother Alexander, but Bill is still impressively tall. Yes, he comes in at 6' 3¼”, a mere one inch shorter than his 40-year-old bro.
He starred in Netflix’s Hemlock Grove
Skarsgård spent much of his early career working in his native Sweden, but after securing a part in Joe Wright’s 2012 drama Anna Karenina, he was picked for a leading role in the super-gory Netflix horror series Hemlock Grove. The show ran for three seasons from 2013 to 2015.
His first American film was The Divergent Series: Allegiant
Skarsgård played Matthew, a research scientist, in the third film in the popular Divergent franchise.

His Pennywise will be different
“Tim Curry's performance was truly great, but it's important for me to do something different because of that,” Skarsgård said recently. “I'll never be able to make a Tim Curry performance as good as Tim Curry.”
It arrives at Cineworld on 8 September.
