The Lion King reboot casts its new Timon and Pumbaa...

Hakuna matata! Jon Favreau's Lion King reboot is gathering steam with the news that bantering meerkat/warthog duo Timon and Pumbaa will be voiced by Seth Rogen and Billy Eichner. They will be joining Atlanta star Donald Glover as Simba and a returning James Earl Jones as Mufasa.

Rogen is of course noted for his blockbusting comedy relationship with Judd Apatow on the likes of Knocked Up, and comedian Eichner is perhaps best known for his role on hit-com Parks & Rec. Given both actors come from a comedy background, can we expect banter to rival the original movie's Nathan Lane and Ernie Sabella?

Having steered 2016's The Jungle Book to enormous success, all eyes will be on Favreau to repeat the same trick again. This March's Beauty and the Beast reboot re-set the benchmark for live-action Disney remakes and has already amassed more than $1 billion globally.

The original 1994 Lion King movie is one of the most beloved masterpieces from the Disney renaissance era, buoyed by its mature storyline and pop hits by Elton John and Tim Rice. Will the reboot ascend to the pinnacle of Pride Rock and roar loud and proud? We'll find out when it's released on 19th July 2019.
