With the release of The Last Jedi on 14th December now just two months away, it won’t be long until we’re reunited with Rey (Daisy Ridley), Finn (John Boyega) and Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) for one of the biggest cinematic events of the year.
The Last Jedi may be nearing its release, but we’re still no closer to knowing much about it as its secrets are more heavily guarded than the Ark of the Covenant from Raiders of the Lost Ark.
However some nuggets have found their way online. Beware of potential spoilers ahead as we uncover some exciting The Last Jedi secrets.
The Last Jedi's identity revealed?
Ever since The Last Jedi’s title dropped fans set the internet ablaze, trying to work out who this fabled Jedi could be.
However The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson has come out and dropped a bombshell by stating bluntly to The New York Times that the answer was in the "opening credits of The Force Awakens" all along.
The identity of the last Jedi has been right in front of us in black and yellow all this time; as the opening crawl reads: “the sinister FIRST ORDER…will not rest until Skywalker, the last Jedi, has been destroyed”.
It looks like Luke will be the titular final Jedi but, strangely, Johnson’s statement contradicts information highlighted by IGN who illustrated that the plural German title of the film, “Die Letzen Jedi”, implies there are more Jedi than just Luke. We’ll just need to wait until the film’s release to uncover this secret.
With a series as popular as Star Wars, it’s no surprise that the franchise has a galactic-load of merchandise. It shouldn’t be surprising, then, that everyone’s favourite block-based toy, LEGO, had plenty of Last Jedi goodies to coincide with the film.
Thanks to a leak on Instagram, however, we got a sneak peek at what to expect. Despite the original posts being removed, the images had already been seized by fans and made their online rounds where they confirmed some rumours and gave us more information about the film.
We now know, for instance, that the Walkers glimpsed in the teaser are called 'First Order Heavy Assault Walkers'; we got a closer look at Snoke (played by Andy Serkis) where it was revealed he’d be wearing fancy golden robes and sporting what appears to be a black kyber crystal ring; and we got our first look at 'Evil BB-8' known as BB-9E.
Moreover, LEGO’s leak uncovered interesting facts like Poe (Oscar Isaac) now becoming a Captain. Fans were given a lot of juicy secrets with these leaked images but thankfully there were no major plot spoilers here.
Legendary photographer Annie Leibowitz was one of the first to get a glimpse of The Last Jedi at Pinewood Studios to snap some beautiful photographs for Vanity Fair.
Leibowitz’s photos gave a breathtaking first impression of what we can expect to see in cinemas including our first glimpses of Laura Dern as the pink-haired Vice Admiral Amilyn Holdo and Benicio Del Toro as the mysterious DJ.
Her photos also reveal interesting details such as Captain Phasma (Gwendoline Christie) being equipped with a new retractable spear. Furthermore, some eagle-eyed fans have been able to divulge some super-secretive details tucked away.
Website Making Star Wars has listed a handful of these details. Finn will begin The Last Jedi in a “bacta suit” (specialised equipment that regenerates damaged tissue). These pictures also suggest that Luke may be living with a species of “caretaker creatures” known as porgs who may even be even cuter than the Ewoks in Return of the Jedi.
Lastly, it’s been revealed that part of The Last Jedi will occur on a new casino-like planet called Canto Blight. A picture really is worth a thousand words (or, in this case, worlds).
Mike Zeroh's YouTube channel
If there’s one place to go for all your Last Jedi secrets, it’s the YouTube channel of Star Wars theorist Mike Zeroh.
During the past several months Zeroh has uploaded hundreds of videos claiming to reveal leaked information on The Last Jedi from what he claims to be reliable sources, detailing everything from Luke’s lightsabre to heavily spoiler-ific plot details that we won’t discuss here.
One of Zeroh’s videos claims to depict on-location photographs taken from Croatia of what he claims to be Han Solo’s funeral as well as Snoke’s home planet.
More recently he’s even provided supposedly major plot details on the beginning and ending scenes, highlighting a Luke-themed Funko Pop figure carrying what may be a piece of Darth Vader’s lightsabre.
Of course Disney aren’t confirming any of Zeroh’s statements but it will be interesting to see how accurate his claims are.
Hamill's trailer tweet
Sometimes Twitter can be a place where secrets can be (accidentally) revealed. One such occasion happened recently when a fan asked Mark Hamill about a new Last Jedi trailer, leading Hamill to tease: “Watch Monday Night Football on… October 9th – for no reason in particular”.
Hamill’s tweet was removed soon after it was posted – and we all know why that was.
